Everything you need to know before you begin.
Membership, training, aircraft, and how to get started. If your question isn't answered here, we're glad to talk it through personally.
What is Liv River Aero Club?
Liv River Aero Club is a private, exclusive membership program based at Quincy Regional Airport. It provides priority access to a modern Cirrus equipped with Garmin Perspective avionics and the Cirrus Airframe Parachute System (CAPS), along with professional instruction from an experienced airline captain with more than 12,000 hours. Membership is intentionally limited to preserve elevated standards, reliability, and a refined experience.
How long does it take to earn a private pilot license?
The timeline varies based on the pilot's schedule, prior experience, and consistency of training. With a structured approach using the Cirrus Approach curriculum and dedicated instruction, many pilots complete the private pilot certificate in a focused period of several months. We emphasize quality and safety over speed, and an FAA-approved RealSim AATD (coming soon) will further support efficient progress once available.
Do you offer accelerated training programs?
Yes. We support focused, efficient training pathways for pilots who want to progress deliberately. Instruction is delivered by an experienced airline captain, and the program is designed around the official Cirrus Approach ground school curriculum. Aircraft and instructor time are scheduled to support steady advancement while maintaining the highest standards of safety and professionalism.
What is Cirrus Approach?
Cirrus Approach is the official online ground school and training platform from Cirrus Aircraft. Liv River Aero Club uses the Cirrus Approach curriculum for ground instruction. Course materials and enrollment fees are paid directly to Cirrus. Your instructor will recommend the appropriate course—such as the Private Pilot Program, Instrument Rating Program, or transition courses—based on your goals.
What is the Private Pilot Program?
The Private Pilot Program is a structured training pathway that combines Cirrus Approach ground school materials with in-aircraft instruction. It is designed to prepare pilots for the private pilot certificate in a modern Cirrus. The program emphasizes systems knowledge, decision-making, and the safety features of the platform, including CAPS. Aircraft and instructor fees are billed by Liv River Aero Club; course materials are purchased directly from Cirrus.
How old do you need to be to start?
FAA regulations allow individuals to begin flight training at age 16 for a student pilot certificate and to obtain a private pilot certificate at age 17. We welcome serious students who meet these requirements and are prepared for the commitment of professional-level training.
What is the Embark Program?
The Cirrus Embark program provides structured transition training for new owners of pre-owned Cirrus aircraft. Once the founder completes the Cirrus Standardized Instructor Program (CSIP), Liv River Aero Club will be able to deliver Embark training. Cirrus compensates authorized providers for this training. The club will also be positioned to receive referrals for recurrent training and owner support in the region.
When will the simulator (AATD) be available?
An FAA-approved RealSim AATD is planned for the months following the March 2027 launch. It will support systems familiarization, procedures, and scenario-based training. The FAA allows up to 20 hours in an approved AATD toward the instrument rating. Anticipated member rates will be published when the device is operational.
How limited is membership?
Membership is intentionally limited to maintain scheduling reliability, safety, and an exclusive environment. Only a finite number of positions will be available across the Gold Access and Platinum Priority tiers. Diamond Circle is limited to only 2 memberships. Inquiries are reviewed personally. Because availability is limited, interested pilots are encouraged to begin a conversation soon.
What aircraft will I fly?
Phase 1 centers on a Garmin Perspective-equipped Cirrus SR20 G3 (N312AR) with the Cirrus Airframe Parachute System (CAPS). The aircraft offers modern avionics and proven safety systems. Future phases include additional Cirrus aircraft as the club grows while preserving the exclusive membership model.
